Tony Rock Rising Star

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Tony Rock, as one of Brooklyn’s funniest man is far from just following the footsteps of his brother and is shining his own trail in the world of wit and further than that. , Tony Rock is all set with his Rock the World brand to triumph over the stratosphere one giggle at a time.

Tony Rock’s first ½ hour comedy special is all set to kick off in the new season of Comedy Central this week. Among seven brothers in which three are comedians, Tony has been entertaining us in films, television and on stage for years.  Most notably he is being known as as Dirk Black which he played in the long running UPN comedy “All of Us”. Tony even got the BET Comedy Award nomination for it.

With a politically erroneous disposition, the merriment of his live stand-up comedian shows has audiences laughing out loud while trembling their heads saying “Oh no he didn’t!” at present Tony is touring the nation with his one-man show.

With his great wit and caliber Tony rock now has an identity of his own and despite being Chris Rock’s brother Tony is carving his own niche in the entertainment world pretty well. Our wishes are with Tony.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez performed on Dick Clark Rockin’ New Years Eve Times Square live at Aria in Las Vegas.  Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez made the fans roar as Justin sang “One Less Lonely Girl” to Selena.  Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are Nick and Disney celebrities my children follow.  With that in mind, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez will host Pop-Con on February 20 at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York.

It seems Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez with her band The Scene are the new pop stars for the younger generation.  Hollywood Crush reports about Pop-Con, a pop event for tweens and teens   The event features pop stars such as Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.  Kids can also find advice about getting into show biz and shop for cool stuff at the “Culture Mall”.

Tickets to see Justin Bieber and Selene Gomez at Pop-Con cost $35 to over $700 based on the package you choose.  Other popular performers at Pop-Con will include the Naked Brothers Band, Care Bears on Fire and Sean Kingston.  I like Sean Kingston! More performed will be announced in the future.  I know my children will want to see this.

Casey Johnson Dead

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Casey Johnson, daughter of New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, died Monday in Los Angeles, a spokesman for the family announced, without mentioning the cause of her death.

“The Johnson family is mourning its tragic loss, and asks for privacy during this very difficult time,” a family spokesperson said in a statement.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) which responded along with the County Police to what they called an “ambulance death investigation” at 11:51 a.m. (1951 GMT), pronounced Casey dead at her home Monday morning.

“It appears to be a natural death,” an official of the LAPD said, adding that there would be a toxicology report from the coroner’s office where the body is currently lying.

Casey, 30, heiress to the Johnson & Johnson fortune to whom internet celebrity Tila Tequila claimed to be engaged, was the great-granddaughter of the founder of the pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson, manufacturer of health products.

Diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 8, Casey co-wrote a book with her father and mother Sale Johnson in 1994, titled “Managing Your Child’s Diabetes.” She later appeared in shows like ‘The Fabulous Life of…’ and ‘E! True Hollywood Story’.

Besides her parents, she is survived by two sisters and a daughter, Ava-Monroe, whom she adopted from Kazakhstan in 2007.

Space Jams for Jordon

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

JOHNSON CITY– The line began forming at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Foot Locker store in the Oakdale Mall.

The rest of mall was closed at 11 p.m., but at the Foot Locker store the line of some 30 people stayed in place.

They were lining up to get sneakers, but not just any sneakers. What went on sale at the stroke of midnight were Air Jordan XI (11) Retro Space Jams.

Nike is reissuing the sneaker, which was a hot seller when it was first released in 2000, to eager sneaker and Michael Jordan enthusiasts who were willing to line up to get them.

Rumors of the release date began circulating early this year on sneaker-collecting blogs, such as NiceKicks.com and SneakerObsession.com. But Nike, which makes the shoe, wouldn’t even talk about a release date until last month when the Jordan brand Web site announced they would hit the stores on Dec. 23, two days before Christmas.

Quantities are limited. The Foot Locker at the Oakdale Mall had only 24 pairs of the shoes available.

“The early bird gets the worm” is how one store employee put it.

The sneaker is a model of the one that Michael Jordan wore in the 1996 movie, “Space Jam,” along side Bugs Bunny and a collection of animated Looney Tunes characters. The company issued the shoe to the general public four years later.

Promptly at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, customers were let into the store — one at a time.

First in line was Robert Rodriguez, 19, of Binghamton, who also likes to be called “Macho.” He had been in line since 8 p.m. and said, “I need them. I’m a sneaker-head. I collect them; I love sneakers.”

Those in line indicated which size of shoes they were seeking, and after the 24 pairs were accounted for, the unlucky few went home. Sales proceeded in an orderly fashion and everybody was good-natured about the situation.

Boon Logan Leaves Atlanta Braves

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

So…I guess this means no one wanted Derek Lowe?

In a move that shocked me, the Atlanta Braves dealt Javier Vazquez (along with Boone Logan) to his former team for Melky Cabrera and a pair of pitching prospects.

Wow.

Just, wow.

I don’t want to say I’m disappointed in the deal, since the Braves basically acquired something similar Julio Teheran in Arodys Vizcaino (less than 20, power arm), but I was just hoping to see more MLB-impact players (Nick Swisher…ahem… maybe an above average INF prospect for Minor League depth in an area of weakness) than Melky Cabrera and lefty Mike Dunn (24).

Granted, Cabrera (25) is a switch-hitter that fields well and hit .274 this past season, but he only belted 13 homers last season and definitely does not help fill the power void Atlanta has in its outfield.

A Cabrera, McLouth, Heyward/Diaz outfield will be one of the most athletic in the NL, if nothing else.

But, time will tell whether this was a good move or not.

If Cabrera performs well in the National League and Dunn and Vizcaino can make an impact within the next three years, then you have to like this move for the Braves.

However, if Vazquez performs well above his career American League numbers in New York and either of the two prospects completely flop, then you have to applaud Brian Cashman for swindling Frank Wren and his posse.

I’m hoping for the first with all my heart.

Let’s hope that the Braves use this $10.5 million saved from Vazquez (and 500K coming from the Yankees) to fill the void at first by either signing a primo free agent with pop or trading for a high payroll player (not likely).

But, once again, just wow.

And let’s hope Derek Lowe can walk back across the bridge he burned with the sour comments he made a couple of days ago.

Dian Sawyer Brings Changes in ABC News

Monday, December 21st, 2009

She does so, without great fanfare. It’s a transition plan designed to limit big expectations, and to be in deference to Charles Gibson, who retired Friday.

“This is not about a Monday, or a month of Mondays,” said executive producer Jon Banner. “It’s not about one program, or one week of programs, this is a long-term effort of our broadcast mission.”

Sawyer takes over “World News” after 11 years on “Good Morning America,” where she handled a daily dose of hard news and fluff.

The transition has also been smoother than past “World News” changes. In 2005, longtime anchor Peter Jennings died of lung cancer. ABC shifted to a two-anchor format with Elizabeth Vargas and Bob Woodruff. But, that team was rocked when Woodruff was injured when covering Iraq. Gibson then took over the broadcast.

When Sawyer pops on the screen tonight at 6:30, viewers will notice subtle changes. The look of the show will be “freshened up,” according to Banner. There will be other changes, too.

“Clearly, every anchor … brings their own interests and strengths to the business,” Banner said. “There will be some tweaks. She tends to be more conversational, so you’ll probably see more conversations with the correspondents.”

The changes, he said, will be gradual, not huge.

“I think she’ll do an excellent job,” said Quinnipiac University journalism Prof. Richard Hanley. “She’ll fit nicely into the evening slot. Will she attract more viewers? Probably not.”

Hanley said the evening news audience is static, and that younger viewers are not tuning into the 6:30 p.m. newscasts.

“If a national event does occur, [ABC] will have in place an anchor who’s widely known and trusted,” Hanley said. “And that’s meaningful.”

While the overall audience levels are not as high as a decade ago, each of the three is bigger than any of the cable news shows. Likewise, the newscasts are considered the home of nonpartisian, objective coverage.

“Our focus must be and remain on the audience and what matters to the people we serve every day,” ABC News President David Westin said in a memo to the staff. “If we show a steadfast devotion to serving that audience, all of our programs will be successful over the long term – which is our goal.”
